Role classification
How an office is filled. Kept small and based on the mechanism rather than the title, because job titles don't translate across countries, but how someone gets the job does.

Terms

Elected | Filled by public vote. |
appointed |
Appointed | Filled by another officeholder or body's decision. |
employed |
Employed | Filled through a hiring process — a staff job, not a government office. |
exOfficio |
Ex officio | Comes automatically with another office. Whoever holds that other Post holds this one too. |
volunteer |
Volunteer | Unpaid, usually on an advisory board or commission. |
hereditary |
Hereditary | Passed down through inheritance. Rare, but real in some countries, so those systems don't have to misreport it as 'appointed'. |
